With Reina in the lead, she thinks back to when she started modelling but also begins to question what she is actually looking for. Just as they enter the tunnel, Blackbird and Devil Z take to each side of Reina’s GTR and begin overtaking her, however at the exit of the tunnel, the GTR begins to slip and crashes into the wall. Akio stops and checks if Reina is alright, however Tatsuya continues to drive on. One night, Akio gets a visit from his home room teacher, Shimada Rumi, and she tags along with Akio that night in the Devil Z. She wants to understand why he is fascinated by the Z but more importantly, she wants him to attend school.

The next morning, Akio turns up to school, and this surprises his teacher, however once morning classes started, Akio has already left. Rumi goes out to look for him, but instead, she recognises Eriko as she was the passenger in the Blackbird last night. The two head to a coffee shop where Eriko explains the story behind the Devil Z. Meanwhile, Reina is doing a photo shoot with a famous photographer, Yoshiaki Ishida, and later on are attending a dinner party. Ishida leaves but finds Reina waiting for him at his car, a Ferrari Testarossa. Later on, Ishida tells Reina about his encounter of the Devil Z and how he wants to race it again.
As Akio goes to get his car, Rumi is there waiting for him and tags along again. As Ishida and Reina are driving through Wangan, hoping to see the Devil Z, the two are approached by a red GTR provoking them in a race. Ishida ignores them at first, but eventually speeds up. That is because the Devil Z is catching up from behind fast. Ishida is surprised to see that the driver is Akio and that he is young, and Rumi is surprised that they are going to race. The red GTR joins in as well but eventually overtakes them, however a truck pulls in front of them, causing the red GTR to slam on the brakes and crashes into the wall, with the Devil Z in the path for a head-on collision.
Impressions
Having introduced another rival last episode, we’re once again introduced to another rival, this time Ishida. If there is one awesome thing about this is the fact that Ishida drives a Testarossa, and that’s one thing I like about Wangan, the different variety of cars that show up, not just Japanese cars. Still I find it rather strange that a Fairlady Z can outrun a Ferrari, but the Devil Z is no ordinary car. I think eventually we’ll come to understand why the Devil Z is such a fast car and why it keeps on wanting to go faster.
Another new character is Akio’s homeroom teacher, Rumi. She is definitely a dedicated person to keep tabs on Akio and trying to get him to come to school, but I see her as a minor character in the story and that she’ll be forgotten after a few more episodes. But I found it a little amusing how Rumi just happened to catch Eriko. But now she knows about the Devil Z, she is more interested into why Akio is the way he is.
So with the three-way race going on and the red GTR crashed, you can easily see that the Devil Z will get out of it.Still, if it’s one thing, in the world of street racing, many unpredictable things happen, but that is also the fault of the red GTR for trying to rush things. But now that the Devil Z has a new opponent, I think we can see Ishida being a permanent character.

omg the character design looks awful O.O!!!!!
is the anime itself any good?
Hachi: That depends on your definition of good. Wangan Midnight is focused on those who are a fan of cars and racing. If you liked Initial D then you’ll like Wangan. In essence, no the anime isn’t that great, but I like it as I like cars, I liked Initial D, and I’ve read the manga as well as played the arcade game. Well the character design is much better than the manga designs, trust me on that part.
