Impressions
Well a slow paced start to the second season of Higurashi, but it’s nice to give a little background on those who are new to the series so they can catch up to speed on what’s been happening. Although its one thing in anime series that I don’t like, and that is all the talking. It may be all for the story, but after so much, I end up being all lazy and don’t bother trying to understand what they are saying.
Seeing a grown up Rena was definitely a surprise in this episode. Although seeing only her, and with all the flashbacks, I get a feeling that in the next episode or two we’ll be jumping back and forth a little and the story will begin there. One thing I liked about the first season was how it always made me want to know more on what happened and how it happened. So I hope to see more of the mysteries of the events that occurred. Although what I do hope that doesn’t happen is that it’ll make me feel bored around the halfway point, as I felt like that in the first series.
Give the OP and ED theme, it appears that Rika is the main character in this series with all the events revolving around her. In the first season, there wasn’t much revealed about her, nor that much development either, so it’s good to see the focus has shifted to her. And from the looks of things, there’s going to be a new character coming to play and has something to do with Rika. Also the OP and ED themes I didn’t find that great.
So like all first episodes, it’s hard to tell how this is going to play out. At the end of the first season, there was so much that felt unresolved, so I do hope that this second season will reveal all and hopefully will keep my interest. But really, the only thing I’m watching this for is that I want to see more Shion/Mion, lol. So I shall soldier on in watching this, but if it drags out, it’ll make it feel like a chore to watch. Definitely won’t blog this as I can’t really blog much on a series like this.

hmm..according to some, this is the original exclusive to the anime only. it is not relaetd to the original story. more like a recap somehow.
i am looking forward to this series that is for sure.
well those ’some’ are wrong, since this is not exclusive to the anime
it is indeed related to the original story, as a continuation of the last arc from the first season. This episode is based on one of the TIPs in the higurashi visual novel.
Definite watch, noticed that the quality has been upped a bit, and distorted faces seems to be toned down a bit (for now). OP and ED are ok, I’m sure it’ll grow onto me eventually.
PS: For someone that’s probably in her late 30’s - early 40’s, Rena looks like if she was in her early 20’s…
