Impressions

When the OVA was released sometime last year, I had mixed feelings on whether I liked it or not. And even with this first episode, I still feel the same. Now I’m a sucker for cute characters, but somehow with Sky Girls I don’t get that same vibe as I normally do. I think it would somehow have to be the premise of the show that pre-adolescent teens wearing exo-suits is what puts me off. Although when I saw the small trailer for Strike Witches, I enjoyed that much more than Sky Girls, weird isn’t it?

So with this only being the first episode, it’s hard to gauge how Sky Girls is going to end up. With the OVA being a success, well it would be if they’re making a TV series, we’ll be seeing the same kind of quality as we did then. JC Staff is a really solid studio however this is one of three shows that they are producing this season, so I hope we don’t see a downfall in quality in all of them.

With an all star cast of Kawasumi Ayako (Sakurano Otoha), Shizuka Itou (Ichigo Eika), and Gotou Saori (Sonomiya Karen) they all do a splendid job as their respective characters. However I can’t get over the feeling that hearing Otoha speak, I keep thinking Nodame, lol. I wonder if we’ll hear a “gyabo” or a “mukyaa” some time in the series. With the music, not really a fan of either the OP or ED or the BGM in the series.

I can see the series growing later on, and hopefully it’ll be something better than what Sunrise can throw at us. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of direction that Sky Girls will take, and I hope it’s a good direction. Definitely continue to watch this, but I doubt I will continue blogging this. Also impressions are short in this as I really can’t think of anything to say, plus I’m tired, such is the working life.

I checked this anime out, it doesn’t really interest me except for the possible upcoming fights with the prototypes. It really reminds me of macross, how the planes transform from plane mode to fighter mode, no g mode in between though lol.

I agree with you on that. The battle scenes are what interests me in this series, plus it’ll be nice to see what JC Staff can do when it comes to action scenes.
