Impressions

So the first episode pretty much covers…..the first episode, lol. With School Days being slated for only 13 episodes, they’re already going to delve into the story with the love triangle between Kotonoha, Sekai, and Makoto. Which is a good thing as I’m sure most of you know, it’ll get better later. From what I have seen so far from the first episode, perhaps they won’t be holding back on the more gruesome aspects that we see from the game. Seeing Makoto push back Sekai like that, as well as the shattering title at the start could just be a prelude for what we could be seeing in the later episodes.

Now it has been a while since I actually played School Days, but watching this episode I realise that they are staying relatively close to the game even in terms of camera work. Although with this being a proper anime, there are some slight additions and they work well with what is already done. The animation style is the same as the game, but just more fluid. Plus it’s nice to know they even are using the same seiyuu’s from the game. With TNK handling the animation production, I don’t think we’ll see any downhill animation as they had series like Yuri Kannaduki no Miko and Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora.

One thing I’m slightly disappointed in is that they have opted to use original songs for the anime. I was hoping to hear “Anata ga….Inai” by Kuribayashi Minami for the ending, and it seems we won’t be hearing “Still I Love You ~Mitsumeru Yori ha Shiawase~” by Kiriko as the opening theme. This episode doesn’t have an opening theme so we’ll be hearing that next week. But don’t get me wrong, I actually like the Ending Theme, although that is purely because I’m a CooRie fan. It goes well with the setting of the story and the Ending Sequence was nice. Perhaps we’ll even get to see a bit of Setsuna’s story.

Now I won’t delve too much into the characters, but I’m rooting for a Kotonoha ending! Even if it’s a bloody one, lol. She is my favourite girl followed up by Sekai and Setsuna. Thus so far it’s an enjoyable watch for a first episode simply because it brings back many memories from playing the game. I myself have completed 80% of the game so I know pretty much the entire story. With the anime, it’s like playing the game but without the clicking. Anyway this is a definite series for me to blog.
