Okuira Kaname is the swimming club manager at a school nicknamed “Umishou”, where he’s afraid of entering the water due to nearly drowning when he is a child. One day a houseboat arrives on the beach with an energetic girl called Ninagawa Amuro, and both Kaname and Amuro feel that they’ve meet each other before.

Ending Sequence:

ED: “Splash BLUE ~ Taiyou to Lemonade” by Murata Ayumi

Impressions

Having just watched this, I feel kind of stumped at the moment on whether I like it or not. During the write up for season previews, I was wondering about this show, with it’s focus on a swimming club, there’s bound to be plenty of fanservice. Boy was I right. Within the first minute we’re already seeing someone undress and throughout the series we see plenty more. But then it is summer in Japan right now, so this is probably to appease all those otaku don’t never go to the beach as they feel shunned by society.

There is quite a variety of characters shown so far in the first episode, with many more to come in later episodes, with Amuro being the everso energetic one. However when I heard Kaname’s voice for a few lines, the voice was sounding strikingly familiar, and then it hit me……. Capeta! I’m not sure if Toyonaga Toshiyuki is the best choice for Kaname at this point as everytime I hear him speak, I think Capeta. Amuro is Toyosaki Aki’s first major role in an anime series (well according to ANN) but she definitely does a good job in bringing out the energetic character. But of course there are some well known talents like Nabatame Hitomi as Momoko and Shizumu Ai as Ikuta “Makio” Maki.

If one thing for sure, this series is visually pleasing, and not just in the fanservice way. Using a colourful palette that blends in with the theme of it being swimming does really nice, and it’s brought to us by Artland. Artland has brought us the wonderful world of Mushishi and Bokura ga Ita, however thy also brought us Happiness, so I hope we won’t be seeing a downfall like we did in Happiness.

The music is something I definitely like as it feels a little catchy. So far I like the Opening Theme more than the Ending Theme, and the overall series is using some nice BGMs. But as I said before, I am kind of stumped on whether I like this show or not. I did not laugh once throughout the show, yet I didn’t exactly find it boring either. Though I can see that there’ll be some laughter later in the show, and a small chance of romance happening. But for now I’m sure there’ll be plenty of breasts shots, or Kaname sticking his face in some girl’s breasts.

So with this being aired the same day as School Days and Doujin Work, I don’t think I’ll blog this, but I shall continue to watch it to see how it turns out.
