Impressions
So with the Summer Season on a rolling start, the first show to pop up is Nanatsuiro Drops (well technically the first show was Tetsuko no Tabi, but I’ll probably get to that later). What I know about Nanatsuiro Drops is that it’s a ero game with Noizi Ito as the character designer, and well most anime that are based off a ero game I usually end up liking.
The first thing that I like about the show so far is definitely the character designs and the use of such a colourful palette. With all the chibi characters that come to play also adds to the cuteness, but it reminds me a little too much of YoakeNa. God I hope this doesn’t turn out like that. However here the animation is definitely higher than YoakeNa, but Studio Barcelona is taking the reigns here and with shows such as Dai Mahou Touge and Kodama no Jikan under their belt, we can see that it’ll stay top quality.
Characters themselves is another matter, especially Sumomo. Like other blogs I have read, and having watched this once I woke up before going to work, god her voice is hellishly annoying. Yuimoto Michiru does the voice for Sumomo but she has done other roles like Jun from Happiness, but it still doesn’t make it any better. Her voice is still damn annoying. The other characters I can’t really comment too much at this point as I’ll hold off until I watch a few more episodes.
The music is alright so far but since I watched this when I woke up, I didn’t get a very good listen to it. But as a first impression I prefer the Opening Theme so far, but I’ll have to listen to the Ending Theme again later to see if I like it or not.
The general impression I get is that this is just another mahou shoujo show which is a cross between CardCaptor Sakura and Dragonball Z (since it is 7 Star Drops). Although since this only the start, I’ll give Nanatsuiro Drops a chance to prove that it can be something different however I don’t see that as very likely. Anyway I shall continue watching and I MAY continue to blog this if it turns out interesting for me. However you probably won’t be seeing any summaries for this as I’m limited on time as it is (I’m writing this from my work computer, lol). And not like anyone actually reads the summaries.

Impressions are always more interesting than summaries to me anyway, and they’ve got to be more fun to write. I was impressed by the animation in this too, hopefully it keeps up and there isn’t a drop-off in quality as it goes on. Sumomo’s voice isn’t my favorite, but to me at least her voice is nowhere near as annoying as Sasami in Tenchi/Pretty Sammy so I think it won’t detract from my enjoyment too much if everything else is good. I hope she doesn’t cry 4-5x an episode for the rest of the series, but even Sakura was a little whiny at the start of CCS, and hopefully Sumomo will grow as a character as the series continues.
I just finished watching the first episode and I was quite suprised how much I enjoyed it. I’ve seen very few anime in the mahou shoujo genre, but since this is based off an eroge, it already has something to keep my interest. My only concern is that, while the chibi parts always managed to put a smile on my face, they also reminded of my wounds that have still not healed. Cabbage…love…
If the quality stays consistent, I can see myself really enjoying this.
I think I wanna go and order sumomo akihime figurine @ hlj after seeing the first episode…
suguru: Well with no summaries, I can use more brain power to write impressions. Actually I do hope that Sumomo doesn’t cry all too often as it’ll remind me a bit too much of Stellvia with Shinpon crying like almost every 10 minutes.
Mizumi: This series with their use of chibi characters may cure us of cabbage love!
samejima: In all her cuteness I’d order Sumomo in her mahou shoujo outfit over the school uniform.
:] It also reminded me of CCS, with the extremely moe leading girl and the cutesy things. Oh, and nice screencaps.
I hope you don’t mind me adding you to my blogroll, btw ^^
Mintie: All good, you can add me if you want.
the only turn off in this anime is sumomo’s voice imho. other that that, since it is adapted from one of my fave vis novels. i will continue watching it
