Thank you Moé Moé Rabu, I now have a job!

It has definitely been a long time since I graduated from uni. My ceremony was WAY back in September but I have actually been looking for work since August. So after a long 10 months of searching for full time work, I can finally say that the search is over! That’s right, and it’s all thanks to Moé Moé Rabu, well in a indirect way. First just a bit of background. Originally I was looking for a Software Developer role, since I graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science majoring in Systems Programming, but alas once I began my search for full time work, I found it extremely difficult to get even a junior position.

As I continued the search, I used Moé Moé Rabu as a means to kill time until I could find work but also to learn a bit more on web development. Though eventually I found myself a bit more interested in web development as I continued to work on the blog and even started looking at web development jobs as the filed appeared to be much easier to find work in. Losing faith in finding work, friends kept helping me out in the search but the months kept stacking up. However I finally saw a job advertised relatively close to where I went to uni and applied. Went for an interview on Thursday afternoon and was told the details etc. They told me I’m standing on top at the moment and that they’ll call me on Friday if I get it. The call didn’t come so I rang them up today, as I had another job offer, but was happy to hear they are going to accept me.

The job itself is a junior web developer role in a small company, but they are growing so fast they’re already looking for a new office space. So I’m definitely over the moon about this as my long search is over and I have to thank my blog for the majority of this. Without this blog I wouldn’t have had an interest in web development, but I would also have to say people like Danny Choo, and Shingo are inspirations for me in entering the blogsphere and learning more about web development. Anyway so far this role involves me doing a training module for the first month and starting on small projects. I’ll be learning Adobe Cold Fusion and refining my HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills. Good thing about this role is that since it’s located roughly the same area as the uni I attended, it’s only a 20 minute drive to work.

So now with me entering full time work, what does this mean for Moé Moé Rabu? Quite a few things actually. Simply I’ll most likely have to cut down on the amount of blogging I do especially with anime episodes. Figure reviews I’m not sure at this point as I’ll have less time to go out and take photos, but given it’s Winter here in Australia, the weather hasn’t exactly been great either. Although with the current shows I’m blogging I’ll still continue until they are done, but with new shows, either stop completely or just do smaller posts (actually I’ve been meaning to do this for ages).

Anyway, I’ll be starting straight away, or Tuesday next week, and I’m totally excited as I can finally get a start on my career. But more importantly, I CAN FINALLY LEAVE WOOLWORTHS!!! Thank you Moé Moé Rabu, I now have a job!

Congratulation! I can see that your blogging will reduce but your expense on anime will increase since you have a decent income. ^o^

Thanks for the congratulations my dear readers.

lotekk: Indeed. There is still much more to learn.

Fisherman Horizon: Oh please don’t say that. I shudder at the thought of my anime merchandise spending habit increasing, although it sounds tempting.

icie: YES! No more supermarket work. 4 years and 5 months is long enough.

tj han: Well I’ve bleed plenty in my job with Woolworths, hopefully this time it won’t be so much, lol.

Danny Choo: For sure, but of course I probably wouldn’t have gotten to this point if it weren’t for your blog. Definitely will be sticking to this path for a while since I’m enjoying web dev at the moment and my blog will help me through it.

Hinano: It does! Woolworths is one of the MAJOR supermarket chains in Australia. Just glad I’m out of there.

    Congrats dude!

I know finding a full time job you are actually interested in can be hard and long, but once you find one, it’s golden. Good luck with the job and can’t wait to hear what you’ll spend your first paycheck on ;)

Congratulations, even though I’d be sad to see Moe Moe Lab shrinking, as it’s near the top of my feed list.

I don’t know about Australia, but at least here it’s very hard to find anyone to fill programming jobs which we need to have done. No fresh grad seem to know anything about C, but they know it all about language theory and other CS mumbo jumbo.

  15. 15 Adun Jun 17th, 2007 at 2:08 am

moyism: I also wonder what I’ll spend my first paycheck on as well, lol.

Pete Zaitcev: From what I’ve gathered from my experiences in the job hunt was that a lot of employers were wanting people with at least 2 years commercial experience. That’s fair and all but getting that 2 years experience isn’t exactly easy since no one will hire you if you are fresh out of uni, and it is this reason that I turned to web development. But I know what you mean by no one knowing how to actually program as I encountered quite a few people like that during uni.

I still find it hard that it’s hard to find a programming job in australia, probably the job market down there (or your city isn’t geared towards that field). Either way congratulation on getting a job d(>__

  17. 17 AS Jun 17th, 2007 at 10:08 am

Congrats on the job ^-^, plus its something that you are interested in as well. Starting off with a growth company like yours will definitely lead you somewhere if it continues to grow which I hope it does for you. If you keep doing what you are doing you will do great.

  18. 18 jpmeyer Jun 17th, 2007 at 11:16 am

Oh man, congratulations! I’d been looking for a job since December, so I can definitely sympathize with how hopeless it can feel as months and months pass with no prospects.

  19. 19 Adun Jun 17th, 2007 at 11:17 am

Hijiko: It’s not that it’s hard to find a programming job in Australia, trust me, there are plenty. The problem is that it’s hard to get employed if you are fresh out of uni with no commercial experience. I have only a select few friends who got programming jobs but they were lucky.

AS: That’s one aspect that I like. Starting with a growing company I can see myself moving very fast. Of course with this being VERY close to home, I won’t be leaving the company for a while.

jpmeyer: I’m just glad it didn’t hit 12 months

Also as a side note, which I forgot to add, I don’t have to wear a suit! Casual clothing FTW!

  20. 20 samejima Jun 17th, 2007 at 11:54 pm

    Congrats Adun!
btw, you gonna stop buying anime merchandises?

  21. 21 AOforever1 Jun 18th, 2007 at 5:06 am

    Omedato!
And thanks for posting the picture EXIF info.

  22. 22 Adun Jun 18th, 2007 at 8:05 am

samejima: Not likely. I’ll still be buying anime merchandise, just that I don’t want it to increase at the moment.
