As the class is having P.E in the gymnasium, a submarine surfaces from the floor. Standing on top is a boy, Mikawa Kai, and he claims to have come for San. He happens to spot Nagasumi and decides to attack him with his sword, but he is stopped by a volleyball deflected by San. Although Mawari at this point wants to arrest him for breaking the law on arms, she realises that Kai is the son of the richest family in Japan, but she tries to arrest him anyway. Kai then says that he came here for his bride, San, which surprises everyone.

Kai thinks that Nagasumi used the mermaid secret to con San into marrying him and demands that he return San to him. He explains that San is a childhood friend of his that he met four years ago. At that time he was a hikkikomori and people would only talk to him to go after his money or to use him. But San wasn’t like that and ended up playing house with him. So then Kai and Nagasumi end up fighting over San but they happen to get knocked outside. But due to Kai’s hikkikomori condition, he is afraid of being in wide and bright areas, and tries to use his money for someone to help him. But San tells him that the Kai she knows doesn’t like people approaching him for his money, but right now he’s using that money to solve everything. If he wants help, he should just ask San, and San reaches out her hand to help him. Kai then sees his immaturity and decides to leave, swearing he’ll be back. Although that was short lived as the next day he transfers into their class.
It is now also the time for the school sports carnival and Kai decides to use this as a way to settle the score with Nagasumi. With San winning the 100m race, it is now the boy’s turn, but Kai turns up wearing a spacesuit as it allows him to be in a narrow space. However he can’t run properly and ends up losing. Over the day Kai loses most of the events and even begins to feel jealous of Nagasumi being friendly with everyone. Though with the last event to come, the white team is winning, but Gouzaburou wants San (the red team) to win so he declares who ever wins the relay will get 333 points. With oncoming clouds, Nagasumi and Kai race in the relay. Kai removes the heavy pack on his suit and dashes past Nagasumi. Thinking that everything is lost, it begins to rain, causing kai to turn into a killer whale, but the same with San and Luna turning into mermaids.
Luckily though no one can see anything due to the rain, but suddenly Kai’s submarine emerges and fires off missiles aimed at Nagasumi. San uses the Song of Sleep to make everyone fall asleep, and causing the missiles to drop, but in the end they still explode. Later that afternoon, the rain clears up, but there is still no victor between Kai and Nagasumi’s match.

Impressions
Well another character has been introduced and this time its another guy. I was beginning to think there wasn’t going to be another guy in this series to go against Nagasumi marrying San but looks like I was proved wrong. However I don’t find this episode as funny as the Luna introduction ones simply because there wasn’t a lot of crazy randomness in this episode. Though I suppose it’ll get hard to match what happened in the last two episode for a while.
Hearing Ono Daisuke as Kai is pretty funny because I keep thinking Koizumi Itsuki from Suzumiya Haruhi or Kunisaki Yukito from AIR. Well he does a good job as Kai, and the good thing is that I don’t find Kai as annoying as Mawari (though seeing her in the ouendan outfit was rather cool). With Kai as Nagasumi’s rival for San, there’ll be plenty of humorous moments to come up in the series. However I do see Kai being friends with Nagasumi later on as it shows that he is envious of Nagasumi being all friendly with everyone, and that Kai will come to join them, much like how Luna has joined them.
Speaking of Luna, seems a little weird how she tried to make onigiri for Nagasumi to eat. Possible feelings? Probably not since she probably just wants to best San in cooking, which of course, she failed. Plus it’s still funny seeing Luna being bested by San, even if San doesn’t intentionally do it.
So with a new character introduced, the ending sequence has added Kai into it, but there is still some empty seats so there are some characters left to be introduced. Last episode I wrote that this was a 13 episode series, but given that this is episode 9, and with more characters to come, I can see this is definitely going for at least 24-26 episodes.
