Seto no Hanayome - 06

When Nagasumi and Mawari were young, they played karuta and Mawari always got the “aim for Super-Intendent” card as that is her real life goal. In the morning, Nagasumi’s father sees San in the kitchen and it reminds him of the days when he was younger and with Nagasumi’s mother. Although Nagasumi’s mother thinks that her husband is thinking otherwise and punishes him. It is then that Nagasumi’s mother finds out that Nagasumi and San are keeping their marriage a secret from everyone at school.

During school, Nagasumi notices that all the girls are getting along with San, though the boys are questioning his relationship with San. Though he is saved by Mawari, San is interested in knowing Nagasumi and Mawari’s past. So Mawari tells her that the two of them were the King and Queen of kurata back in junior high which ends up leading to San and Saru joining them for a game. Mawari then notices how close San and Nagasumi are and begins to wonder what their relationship is, but she brushes it off until the next morning she sees Nagasumi and San walking out of their house together.

Mawari at this point is interrogating Nagasumi, even offering him katsudon, until he answers that they are living together. But everyone also finds out that San’s parents are also in the school. In the ruckus, Inchou spills a vase of water on San, but Nagasumi luckily covers her legs in time, but Mawari happened to have a small glimpse of San’s fin. Confused about San’s identity, the next day Mawari attempts to splash water on San, but Nagasumi ends up blocking every attack, even in the girls restroom resulting in him being chased by San’s father.

After school, Maki asks if San wants Mawari taken care of, but San says not to and that she knows that Nagasumi is not only protecting San, but also Mawari from the fate of knowing her true identity. But Mawari is determined to find out the true and a little later, she comes to the conclusion that San is a fish. To prover her theory, she ends up sending a number of cats onto San as cats like fish. This time Nagasumi couldn’t block the cats, and so they all cling onto San. Maki suggests to San to use her howling voice, but San says she can’t since Mawari and Saru are watching. At this point, Nagasumi confronts Mawari and tells her to stop trying to find out San’s secret as she is doing it to satisfy her curiosity, and he throws the Super-Intendent card on the ground. Mawari calls him unfair and runs off, but right infront of an oncoming car. Nagasumi jumps out to save Mawari and San takes the opportunity to use her howling voice to save them.

Mawari then wakes up to find her self at the hospital with Nagasumi and San by the bedside. Nagasumi thinks Mawari knows the secret and prepares himself, but Saru walks in. Saru informs Mawari that she was saved by San’s loud voice, but Mawari finds that ridiculous and Nagasumi joins Saru in order to cover up for San. Though of course, Saru spills water onto San but this time Mawari uses the bed sheet to cover San’s legs. Mawari thanks her for saving her life but also apologises for what she’s done. When Saru begins to mention Mawari liking Nagasumi, she ties him up and drags him outside. She vows to them that she’ll become a great officer that’ll surpass her dad, and thanks Nagasumi as she looks at the card in the sunset.

Impressions

Although this is the6th episode, for some reason I don’t find myself laughing at this a lot anymore. But that may be due to this being a Mawari episode and I find her annoying as hell. Though I’d have to say the funnier parts of this episode were Nagasumi blocking Mawari’s attacks as well as the interrogation part. Also seeing Mawari’s person relation board does show that she sees Nagasumi as more than a childhood friend, but obviously she is the loser in the love triangle. Though I think Nagasumi did well when he told Mawari to stop what she was doing due to her curiosity, and that what she was doing is against what she believes in (well in terms of breaching privacy). But Mawari redeemed herself by covering up San when she got wet in the hospital.

Next episode we’re introduced to a new character, Luna. I look forward to hearing Nogawa Sakura’s voice and to see what kind of role Luna will play in the story. As an love rival to San? Maybe, or maybe not.
