Once again I have cried Manly Tears T_T

Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann is one of the many good series that I am following this season. Though after having watched episode 8, it was just EPIC. The death of Kamina was surely expected, but the way he died was very befitting for a man of Kamina’s stature. Having taken a fatal blow by the enemy, he rises once more to combine once again as Gurren-Lagann to defeat his enemy and unleashes his ultimate final attack. With the enemy defeating, he sits quietly in the cockpit of Gurren-Lagann and whispers a goodbye to his friends.

Upon seeing this I cried MANLY TEARS and for me, I have not done something like that since Hokuto no Ken (which of course wasn’t really that long ago). Kamina was indeed a great man and that he taught that you don’t just believe in others, but more importantly you had to believe in yourself. Believing in yourself was the last advice he gave to Simon and it is that advice which I think will push Simon forward from this point and that it will make him a great man like Kamina.

But now that Kamina has died, I do wonder how the rest of the story will go without him. These past few episodes I felt that he was the bond that held the group together, but also with the Kamina x Yoko relationship that just started, I can see that we’ll be seeing a depressing side of her as well as Simon. But as Simon said – “On that day, we lost someone irreplaceable.” and I think it will be a while till the two of them will move forward from all of this.

You may be gone from the group, but you shall live on within our hearts! Kamina! One of the greatest men of anime! (also a good contender to win next year’s SaiGAR competition.

Well said…I had the same reaction to episode 8, it was just an awesome episode all around. I had been assuming the man in the flash-forward at the beginning of the first episode was Kamina, but I guess that’s really a grown-up Simoun. It’s going to be hard on the whole cast going forward without Kamina, especially for Simoun since he lost his best friend/adopted brother–but it’ll be interesting to see how Simoun reacts and if he becomes a great leader like his idol.

With Kamina gone, the only way I can see this series continuing on to greatness is Simon surpassing Kamina in GARness. And even then…Kamina ;_;

the thing with awesome characters dying relatively early, is that they can’t really be screwed up anymore after that, and will be forever relieved from “filler” duty. which, of course keeps their aura of awesomeness.
no matter how awesome simon could end up being, he will always remember kamina as his the one he looks up to.

i hope kamina will show up in a later episode though, as a flashback from when simon and kamina first met. if that happens, that’s would be it i guess

wonder how long the part of next episode will be kamina dedicated due to the loli in a box preview.

suguru: the man at the beginning I figured it was Simon since he had the drill bit with him.

Shirukii: At this point I can’t imagine Simon being very GAR. Though that may change since his character will change dramatically over the series.

boo: Kamina’s death is similar to that of Gai from Nadesico. He died pretty early in the series but he kept coming back as a memory. So you could be right in that sense.

Ugh: If you have read my blog before, I tend to give spoilers. It’s just the nature of doing an episode summary/review.
