Hayate no Gotoku! - 07

With Hayate knowing about Wataru, Nagi explains that he is clearly her fiancé, not her boyfriend. But of course Wataru doesn’t think highly of Nagi either and the two start fighting, where the commotion causes Isumi to to see what is happening. Wataru immediately gets embarrassed once he sees Isumi and Maria explains to Hayate that Wataru likes Isumi, but Isumi has no feelings for Wataru. Nagi says that if only Isumi liked Wataru back, her engagement would be canceled. Though Wataru notices that Isumi has taken a liking to Hayate and decides to challenge him to a duel before breakfast.

Outside, Nagi tells Hayate to beat Wataru so Isumi will take pity on him, but Hayate instead stops Wataru’s sword with two fingers and pretends to lose but acted in such a way that Isumi figures that he lost so Wataru wouldn’t lose his pride. Hayate says that’s not the case, but Wataru is already in tears and runs off. Later on Hayate feels that he should apologise to Wataru and wants to go visit him. He mentions taking the subway, which catches the attention of the girls who are curious about the subway. So Nagi and Isumi decide to tag along, but Isumi ended up getting lost before they left the front gates. Somehow Nagi and Hayate found themselves underground, where Nagi tells him that she doesn’t like dark places. Though her scream ended up attracting the rats, so the two had to run away, but end up finding Isumi along the way. She surprises them by warding off the rats with a warding charm.

This time around, Hayate goes by himself, but with a package from Nagi to give to Wataru. Standing in the streets of Shinjuku, he meets Saki along the way, but she avoids being touched by him. Hayate is surprised to see the building as it was a video rental store tucked between two tall buildings. Wataru is angry at seeing Hayate, but soon realises he is there to return videos that Nagi borrowed. Saki explains that the Tachibana group is doing poorly and the rental store is their last store, but Wataru says that his parents are only after the Sanzenin fortune. He swears that he will make this store great and make his own fortune, then even Isumi can like him. Seeing Wataru’s determination, he apologises to Wataru and decides to sign up for membership. Unfortunately Hayate’s father had already signed up using Hayate’s details and that he owes the store Â¥1.58 million yen, which adds to Hayate’s debt.

Impressions

Last week’s episode was a rushed introduction to Wataru and Saki so this week we get a bit more time on them which is nice. I think it’s nice to see that Wataru isn’t as rich as Nagi, Sakuya or Isumi as it gives it a nice balance to the characters. Though with his family financial situation in the red, it also shows that he isn’t a snobbish or self-centered rich kid like Nagi and that he is serious. At first I thought he was a crybaby, but his determination to make his own fortune makes up for that. Some of the funniest scenes in this episode would have to be Saki’s avoidance of being touched by Hayate and the duel between Hayate and Wataru. Though I did like how Nagi keeps thinking that Hayate is angry about her not telling him about the engagement.

This week’s references that I picked up are:

  • Inuyasha scene of Wataru and Hayate.
  • Patlabor’s Griffon
  • Teppen Toppa Gurren-Lagann that Wataru was mentioning about.

Hayate as well so far is amazing me with the amount of skills and knowledge he has, like using a sword and blocking one with just two fingers, or the amount of people that take the train everyday. But I do feel sorry for him as his debt just went up again because of his parents. Anyway looks like next week’s episode we’ll be seeing the cosplay chapter which is part of volume 1 with him dressin up in a girl’s school uniform and a catgirl costume.

I like Isumi’s personality, she has no sense of direction, cute, and possibly a miko whenever she takes out that charm. I too like how Wataru isn’t some super rich kid like everyone else. The Inuyasha reference was just weird to me, whats weirder is the next episode with Hayate cross dressing and the head butler leaping on him (shiver).

    Hijiko: That’s right!

AS: The cosplya chapter is one of the funniest chapters in the early parts of the manga and I was wondering when they would show this.
