Nodame Cantabile - 15

With everyone woken up by the sound of music, they find out that it was Chiaki and Nodame playing. Toshihiko knows what piece they are playing and remembers how his grandfather loved it. Chiaki’s violin playing impresses the two and think that he should continue with music, but then Takehiko tells his son that he can do what he wants, but feels it’s best he joins his company. When its time for Nodame and Chiaki to leave, Takehiko invites Nodame to come again and meet Chiaki’s mother. Though he finds it surprising when Nodame tells him she wants to become a kindergarten teacher but everyone thinks she should become a professional pianist. Yuiko even says that she sees her as a friend rather than a teacher. But then Chiaki says that he would never trust his kids her someone like her, she gets so angry that she goes home herself. Passing by in the taxi, Chiaki feels that Nodame has to personally want to become a pianist.

4 months later, Chiaki meets with Kiyora, Kuroki, and Kikuchi about the new orchestra. Kiyora has made a list and Chiaki gets a message from Mine saying he passed audition for A-Orchestra, meaning he kept his part of the deal. Meanwhile Nodame finds out that she has a new teacher, Etou Kouzou, who was Chiaki’s previous teacher. However he is shocked to hear that Nodame has been composing children song and wants her to play normal pieces. But as she plays a PuriGorita song, Etou smacks her with his harisen. This triggers a flashback in Nodame before she gets angry at Etou and ends up bending his harisen before leaving. She finds Tanioka and asks about the change. He tells her that Etou wanted to be Nodame’s teacher, but Nodame says that she doesn’t like him. Tanioka says that he can’t do anything and tells her to do her best.

Later that night, Chiaki is with the new orchestra members and is glad that everyone is normal, unlike S-Orchestra. But 30 minutes later everyone is yelling wildly what they want to play. Kikuchi then suggests the idea of playing a concerto and Chiaki decides on an oboe concerto, with Kuroki as the soloist. Back home, Nodame is ringing on Chiaki’s door but makes her way to Uraken. Mine’s father tells her about the new orchestra party but wanting her to try a new dish, she ends up leaving. A little concerned, he gives Mine a call so he can inform Chiaki. Chiaki is worried about Nodame not eating, but since everyone is moving to another bar, he joins them but wonders if anything happened to Nodame.

Impressions

Boy did Mine get owned by Kiyora or what. That part of them getting married then the divorced part was pretty funny. Anyway some important elements revealed in this episode especially the flashback by Nodame which indicates she had a traumatic event in the past, and it’s probably these traumatic events that holds her back from wanting to become a professional pianist. So hopefully we’ll see the reason of why she prefers to become a teacher instead. Also I think we’ll see Etou change a bit soon as he is determined to not have the same thing that happened with Chiaki, and it’s probably why he chose Nodame as his student. Though seeing his reaction to hearing Nodame’s songs was pretty amusing.

In a sense, I do feel slightly sorry for Nodame since she doesn’t seem to be left out, but it’s also not Chiaki’s responsibility to look after her and feed her. Overall Nodame is too reliant on Chiaki and I give my respect to Chiaki that he is worried about Nodame during the party. Though I do feel that this is a result of having spent so much time with Nodame and that has shown a change in him, where in the past he might have not given a damn. But now that Chiaki and the new orchestra are finally moving forward, Nodame won’t be seeing him as much and hopefully we’ll see her make some progress on her own with Etou.

Next week it appears Kuroki meets with Nodame and some of the other orchestra members.
