Chiaki gets called up by his uncle, Takehiko and asks him to return home. Of course since Nodame answered, she tags along as Takehiko thinks she is Chiaki’s girlfriend. Upon arriving, Chiaki is greeted by his cousin Yuiko and takes him inside, leaving Nodame outside. She is eventually let inside, but Chiaki has gone with Takehiko, leaving Nodame with Yuiko. Takehiko thinks that Toshihiko’s is studying hard but his grades aren’t good enough.

The reason Takehiko called him back was because he wanted Chiaki to see a hypnotherapist to help him get over his fear of planes and boats. Unfortunately the treatment didn’t work and Chiaki is telling his uncle this in his room. Suddenly a baseball comes crashing through the window. Seeing the ball bounce, Chiaki remembers seeing a bottle bouncing and wonders what it is. Looking outside it was Nodame and Yuiko playing outside, so Chiaki decides to take her home, but Yuiko stops them from leaving. Seeing Yuiko starting to cry, Chiaki wonders what happened to the house he grew up in.

During dinner, the family is eating nabe, courtesy of Nodame, and this brings the family a bit closer. However the topic changes to how Toshihiko doesn’t approve of Chiaki joining his father’s company and questions when he will see his teacher Sebastiano Vieira. He continues to tell how they even come up with a plan to knock him out and fly him over there, but they believe he’s cursed as the plan did not work. Toshihiko excuses himself from dinner, and hides under his bedsheets for the night. That night, Chiaki wakes up from a nightmare of an alien figure and decides to goto his grandfather’s music room. Sitting there listening, this wakes up Nodame who is amazed to see the vast collection. Just before morning, Takehiko is yelling on the phone to someone and when he’s finished, he begins to remember what his father said about missing something important. This gets him thinking about his wife’s absence, but he is interrupted as the house is filled with music being played by Chiaki and Nodame.

Impressions

This week we get a deeper impression of Chiaki’s fear of flying as well as the lifestyle he had when he moved back to Japan. It’s nice to see this aspect of Chiaki as we really haven’t seen much character development especially for Chiaki. Though seeing hw his lifestyle was, it was good to know he wasn’t always harbouring the attitude he has now, but with the current state of the house, it seems to just be like Chiaki at the start of the series. of course, Chiaki’s change would have definitely been from Nodame’s influence and her influence has also affected the rest of the family.

The two parts of the bouncing bottle and the mysterious figure is a vital part in understand Chiaki’s fear of flying but I don’t think we’ll be seeing much more of it until later on in the series. I also found it pretty funny how they think Chiaki is cursed since the plane malfunctioned, and the car to the airport got caught in an accident. Also I’m not too sure on this but it appears Nodame now knows of Chiaki’s fear of flying and perhaps she’ll be able to help him get over it.

As seen from the flashbacks, music plays an important part in Chiaki’s family, and with his grandfather having passed away, the family became distant but it’s nice to know that music can bring them back together. Next week’s preview shows us some of the musicians that will be a part of Chiaki’s orchestra so we’ll be seeing all of them performing together soon.
