Hayate no Gotoku - 03

Hayate finds out that it’ll take him 40 years to repay the debt and whilst playing games with Nagi, he also finds out that only 3 people live their because it’s a small house. Hayate says he’s just happy to be living under the same roof with a cute girl. Nagi thinks that Hayate is talking about her, but gets angry once she realises it’s Maria that he is talking about. The next morning, Hayate asks Maria what he does as a butler, so maria assigns him the task of waking Nagi up. Upon entering her room, he sees Nagi asleep, but is shocked to see a large white tiger sleeping behind her.

Nagi soon wakes up and tells him that the tiger’s name is Tama. Klaus, the head butler, then makes an appearance from under the bed and ridcules Hayate about Tama. Although Hayate shortly finds out that Tama isn’t friendly with anyone besides Nagi and Maria, and then attacks Klaus, followed by Hayate. But he stops short since Nagi told him to behave, although they eventually take the fight outside in the garden below. Whilst fighting, Maria walks out to the garden and finds the two fighting, however Tama backs off once he sees the scary face Maria has. Maria treats Hayate’s injuries and tells him how Nagi had found Tama in Africa and took him in since he had no parents. Hayate sees that they are the same, but once Maria has walked off, he speaks up saying not to group him with a loser like Hayate. He also tells Hayate to keep his ability to speak a secret, Hayate just thinks that rich people’s pets can talk.

Later on, Klaus is still no happy with Hayate being a butler because he is poor. So Maria suggests a test and Klaus goes to prepare one. In the meantime, Hayate asks if Nagi has high expectations of him. She explains that Nagi isn’t very good with expressing her feelings and hasn’t been smiling much since the previous butler left. But Maria is happy to see Nagi smiling again after Hayate had saved her. Klaus then takes Hayate to the exam room where he is up against a nursing robot. However Nagi calls it ugly which is enough to make the robot want to kill her. Hayate saves Nagi but now has to fight the robot. He succeeds in pinning it down with silverware and electrocuting it, but doesn’t consider his own safety and gets electrocuted as well. Klaus has no choice but to accept Hayate, until they find a better butler. Hayate wakes up later to find Nagi next to him. He apologises for damaging the room, but Nagi says that there are plety of replacement rooms, but no replacement for him. Hayate remembers the promise he made that he would protect Nagi with his life and continues the battle with the bored robot from the first episode.

Impressions

This series sure does keep me laughing and with the anime reference jokes it makes it even better. Though I’m not sure if the manga would have some of these jokes, but I don’t think they do. This week I picked out the Sailor Moon, the beeping out of Sony, and the the “two more transformations” with the beeping out of Freeza, which I found to be the better one in this episode. So far Hayate has been in a lot of confrontational situations, but I suppose that is what the series is about, him protecting Nagi and getting into random battles. But I like it more of how he gets into those situations but also how he uses his experiences from various jobs to help him get through them.

Seeing Tama suddenly speak was a bit WTF for me. I didn’t expect something like that to happen but it adds to the randomness of this series. Seeing the robot get pissed at Nagi was pretty funny, especially since the robot is supposed to serve the master. Though I can see we’ll be seeing Tama more but I’m not sure about the robot. Also the whole jumping back to the robot from the first episode was a little odd and I didn’t expect them to go back to that part.

Next week we get introduced to more characters and they appear to be Nagi’s school mates. From seeing the opening theme, we still have a fair amount of characters to be introduced so I wonder how they will make them all work together.

Actually, there are a lot of anime references in the manga, perhaps moreso than the anime (although I don’t think there was a Gendo reference in the manga though). When the anime first came out, I was afraid that many of those refrences would be gone, but I’m glad they actually made more anime refrences.

Wait, so we’re being introduced to Hinagiku and Yukiji before Sakuya, Isumi, Wataru, and Saki? Lame!!!

Now that’s very interesting. Perhaps I should read the manga when I get the chance as a good friend has been bugging me to read it.

I just finished watching this episode. I agree about the Tama thing, I was like woah he can talk and the explanation is because he had so much love, I was laughing so hard when I read that. He has such a “gentlemen” like voice too it makes me think that his voice would have come out in a weirder type of accent
