In a medieval town, the villagers are being attacked by demons called youma.Since the youma can disguise themselves as humans, the village chief has called in for a Claymore, female warriors who are half-human and half-youma. One has arrived in town and a boy named Raki is following her around trying to befriend her, but eventually has to return home. Upon returning home, he finds his uncle dead and that his brother is infact a youma. About to be killed, the Claymore warrior comes and kills the youma, saving Raki, and then leaves town.
Meanwhile, Raki is wondering the desert as he got kicked out of his village in fears of him being a youma. Having fainted upon seeing the Claymore’s silhouette, he wakes up to find himself in an inn. After being informed that a Claymore is looking for him in the forest, he makes his way there and realises the Claymore there is infact a youma. Taken hostage the real Claymore appears and throws her sword away. Now unarmed, the youma attacks the Claymore and impaling her. But the Claymore throws the youma down the hill towards her sword where she grabs it and kills the youma.
Raki checks to see if the Claymore is alright, but she has healed herself already. Having no place to go, the Claymore remembers past memories of being alone as a child, so she decides to let Raki follow her until he finds a village he can stay at. Raki wants to know her name, but she walks off, but then tells him that her name is Clare.

Impressions
Before watching this, I read Hung’s impressions on Claymore and he didn’t seem impressed by it. However I think differently of the series and found the first episode to be quite good. I haven’t read the manga for this (I don’t read much manga these days lol) but from what other people have say it is quite good. The animation is damn gorgeous and with the amount of blood and gore it blends well with the whole medieval setting, so MADHOUSE have done a wonderful job. But I do find the character designs slightly ugly though the the good animation and action can make up for that. I do hope that it stays consistent throughout the series as I can imagine we’ll be seeing plenty of more action and more blood and gore.
So far the only interesting character is Clare. There is much mystery surrounding and it looks like she has a pretty tragic past, but I’m sure we’ll learn plenty about Clare later on in the series as well as about the Claymores themselves. One thing I noticed from the opening sequence is that the Claymores all have different symbols, and Clare’s being a fork like one. Not sure what these are supposed to represent but we’ll find out soon. Raki on the other hand is totally uninteresting, and will most likely be annoying. Though he can’t be as annoying as Bart and Lynn from Hokuto no Ken (Roobar and I call them the bitch kids).
Overall I can see this series getting better after say episode 5 or 6. What we’ll probably see firstly is probably a monster of the week, with a few other character introductions. I’ll definitely keep watching this as there haven’t been much anime I’ve seen that has blood and gore. Though seeing how Claymore is right now, it kind of makes me wish the Berserk anime was of this quality. As for blogging, I won’t continue blogging this show.
