Touka Gettan – 01

Impressions

Personally I wasn’t going to write anything about this, but I made a promise about myself to blog all the first episodes that I watch from this season. At a first glance, Touka Gettan so far has to be the most prettiest series that has aired this season, however, the major thing that let it down was by the end of the episode I felt really confused. I had little to pretty much nothing that I could understand from watching it, though with this being a Carnelian work, and having nearly the same staff who did Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito, it doesn’t surprise me that the first episode was utterly confusing.

After a bit of researching, I’ve found out that this is like a sequel/spinoff of Kao no Nai Tsuki (Moonlight Lady) which happens to be a H-game. The first series even spawned a hentai anime OVA and it too was visually pleasing but Touka Gettan isn’t a hentai series. Though back then I watched Kao no Nai Tsuki raw as not many people subbed it and I still have no idea what it was about, the same with Touka Gettan. But some of the characters do resemble some from Kao no Nai Tsuki.

So far there are a few characters and the first one is Kamiazuma Touka, who at the start appears to be a girl, but by the end, she is actually a he. Could this possibly be another trap? Next is his mother, Kamiazuma Yumiko, who happens to be a novelist who happens to be writing a story involving Touka and another girl, Kawakabe Momoka who is the main heroine of the story. Midou Nene is one of many maids that we see and she serves Yumiko tea and strawberry cake, and she wears some very sexy clothing. Then there is a guy who has a red shard stabbed into his right eye.

So far there is not much to know about the characters and from what I’ve read up, this is only a handful so far, there are a lot more characters to come. Really I don’t know how the story goes nor where they are going with this (neither do the Japanese fans who have played the game) but the only redeeming thing for me is that it’s pretty, and it being a Carnelian based work, I can imagine it being consistent through out. Definitely won’t be blogging this but I may give this another episode to decide if i want to continue watching it.

Note: Didn’t do a proper write up as I thought it wasn’t worth doing it for an episode like this.

You understood more than me, I took away pretty much nothing from this episode. I will agree that it is a very good looking series but I couldn’t get into the first episode at all. By the half way mark I was checking the status bar on my computer.

Carnelian’s character design and the background art is really splendid. It some how reminded me of Makoto Shinkai ‘s 5cm/sec.

Bravejaf: Technically I did a bit of reading up after watching this episode, but I knew what was going on by watching. I also checked the status bar around 3/4 of the way.

HisuiIbmPower4: Personally I think Makoto Shinkai’s works are still prettier.

Ahh…I’m glad I wasn’t the only one then. I had heard that Touka was supposed to be a sequel of sorts, so I gathered the only reason I was so lost was because I didn’t watch the prequel.

I didn’t have much patience to sit through the whole thing. I’m not sure if I would get past the second episode either. -_-’

Even though it may be a sequel there is no need to have watched the prequel. In fact as far as I know, the two stories don’t really relate to each other.

i watched last night episode 2-4 and was very pleased with this anime.

i think the key for enjoying this anime is to look at it as a picture of your own subconsciousness.

that way it make a lot of sense..

the story is not important what counts in those surrealistic animes is the mood and the emotions/affections and this thing works fine in it

as a matter of fact it reminds me mostly for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

but be warned i think this anime will get also get little stormy and irritating/lucid at some time…

mindblaster: I have also watched episodes 2-4 but I still find it very confusing and the way it jumps around doesn’t help very much. I can’t see this being anything like Higurashi as even Higurashi had a basis story to each of them and it flowed well.

ok from what i think for seeing both Moonlight Lady (Kao no Nai Tsuki) and this new one touka gettan if you played Kao no Nai Tsuki the pc game you get more info , well Suzuna is a girl for has to take part of the Moonlight Ceremony to well “mate” with Hayama , which Suzuna’s mother really wants not only for hayama to become the head of there family but so she ( the mother) can be reborn which Kikyou in touka gettan or one of the other Priestesses saying how there tired of being ing in the body they where in , or how tehy want to sleep for a while . and how come they pretty boy ( the brown hair who keeps thinking girls are fighting over him) have a scar on his back just like Hayama , and Fuu Looking Like the none speeking Mizuna and and suzuna remeber that her mother is dead , and in teh game the guy with the shard in his eye is in teh Moonlight lady pc game . well i thin is all sums up to this first off its like Utena Revolutionary Girl and yet just a time clash cuz if i remeber Hayama was a demone well a lust monster w/e its like repeating itself

the reason you didnt understand what you were watching was because they play it from the last episode to the first so the first episode is really the last episode. :p hope i helped.
