With the conclusion of the Kanon TV series this week, there was certainly a pleasant surprise that came shortly. Yes it’s the announcement of the Clannad TV series and being animated by Kyoto Animation, the same animation producers as Kanon and Air. Clannad is the third game produced by Key and I for one will surely be anticipating this one.

The official site is up and running, but on the 20th March there’ll be more information revealed then. Looking at the cast list we’ll be getting the original seiyuu’s who did the voices for the PS2 version of Clannad, and with some big names as the seiyuu’s, this is going to be awesome.
The Cast:
Furukawa Nagisa: Nakahara Mai
Ichinose Kotomi: Noto Mamiko
Fujibayashi Kyou: Hirohashi Ryou
Fujibayashi Ryou: Kanda Akemi
Sakagami Tomoyo: Kuwashima Houko
Ibuki Fuuko: Nonaka Ai
The Staff:
Original Creator: Key/Visual Art’s
Director: Ishihara Tatsuya
Character Designs: Hinoue Itaru
Series Composition / Script: Shimo Fumihiko
Music: Key Sounds Label

The 30 second trailer available has also given us a sneak peek into what KyoAni have already done and with the use of Megumeru we can expect the use of the original Clannad soundtrack. But with the coming of Clannad, it brings up a few questions:
- With the release of this trailer will this be coming before or after Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu Season 2?
- Air is Summer, Kanon is Winter, Clannad is Spring. What is the next series that KyoAni will pick up? Will they pick up ONE, which is the title from Tactics before they became Key?
- Will it be a 13 episode series or a 24 or 26 episode series?
The answers to these questions will come eventually, so lets hope we get some good answers. Also another reason I llok so forward to this is because Kyou is my favourite character. I have a thing for girls with long purple hair.

This should be good…I don’t know much about the game other than what was on Wikipedia, but it seems like Key has chosen Kyoani to be their Animation Studio for Life. I just hope Clannad’s ending is more like Kanon’s than Air’s…
Sorry to double post, just realized that March 20th is the first day of spring (for us Northern Hemisphere dwellers)…guess that’s why they picked that date for when they’ll release more info ^^;
I also wonder if the main character will be a lot like Kyon/Yuichi, with the same seiyuu again…
No offence to the seiyuu… but I do not want to hear Kyon/Yuuichi’s voice again.
I agree with TedFox, I really wouldn’t like to see Tomokazu Sugita as Tomoya. As awesome as a seiyuu that he is, Tomoya’s character is a bit more bratty and a delinquent rather than someone who is witty and sarcastic like Yuuichi.
Wow thats big news! I’ve heard of a Clannad movie by ToeiAni but one from KyoAni? Interesting how the two studios always seem to do the same series.
Very very looking forward to this. Ooh I hope they do Planetarian next year too…
Correction:
Character Designs: Hinoue Itaru
Series Composition / Script: Shimo Fumihiko
^^
“Air is Summer, Kanon is Winter, Clannad is Spring…”
I didn’t know that o__o.
I will certainly be following this series.
I knew this would get the KyoAni treatment, but they really caught me off guard by announcing it so soon. From what I’ve heard, Clannad is a very very long game, so I don’t think KyoAni would try squeezing it into 12-13 episodes like they did with Air.
Also, agreeing with others, I really hope they don’t make it a habit to use Tomokazu Sugita as the seiyuu for the protagonists, because it’d just get old after a while.
Who knows, maybe it won’t be too long before KyoAni announces ONE and Planetarian…
pzuk: I also hope for a Planetarian anime to come.
beerman: thanks for the correction
Hijiko: technically Clannad covers a long period of time, but it starts in the Spring.
Mizumi: I agree, it was rather sudden but I think KyoAni want to keep going with the Key hype that they have produced so far.
Yeah, I can’t picture Tomokazu Sugita doing ‘delinquent’ very well…it’ll be interesting to see who they do go with, guess maybe we’ll find out the 20th…
I’ll be keeping an eye on this mainly because it’s yet another KyoAni + Key combo, which I’m starting to love ^^
