Levelling up my Otakuism

Within my vast collection of anime merchandise I have figures, plushies, manga, DVDs, doujinshi, wallscrolls, posters, some cosplay items, and some other small trinkets. However, there was one thing missing. One thing that will take me to the next step in otakuism. So what is this one thing that I am missing?? Quite simple, a dakimakura (hug pillow).

Last week I had to take my car for it’s regular service and it left me wondering around the local shopping mall for 5 hours. Despite being bored out of my brains I did wonder outside to the various shops and one of them is Spotlight. Spotlight is a manchestar and arts and crafts store where you can find a variety of things from curtains and bedsheets to fabrics and craft items. I used to go here often in search of materials for my cosplay many years ago and it’s quite fun browsing through the various fabrics and crafty items.

Anyway browsing by the pillow section I was quite surprised to find a body pillow. Now mind you I looked at many other manchestar places and ended up with no results, but finding it here was just awesome. At the time I was loaded with money, but that was going to pay for my car service so it had to wait another day, and today was that day.

This body pillow measures at 152cm x 45 cm, which is slightly smaller than the ones made by COSPA, however the COSPA ones cost Â¥5000, and then another Â¥5000 just to ship it. This however only cost me $23.95 AU, but Spotlight had a 20% off store wide sale making the price come down to $19.16 AU. Best $20 I spent for the start of this week. But what cover did I use? Well for those who remember a few months ago Dengeki G’s Festival had a Yoake Mae Yori Ruri-iro Na special and it came with a Feena dakimakura cover. Yep, the Moon Princess herself now graces my bed.

Although the pillow itself was only $20, it came at another price. The Feena cover itself measures in at 155 cm x 50 cm, thus the cover is slightly loose. Not to mention the cover itself is rather silky and slightly rough, so for huggability I’m not too sure at this point, I’ll know after a few nights. Though seeing how the Feena cover came from a package that only cost Â¥1980, you can’t expect top quality.

So with a dakimakura finally within my collection, what’s the next thing that I should add? To be honest I’m not too sure. There’s really not much left to get except for maybe a dollfie (however I would eat my own hair if I could get my hands on this), though something like that won’t happen until I find a stable source of income. Oh and just to let you know, no I will not be taking Feena out in public unlike a certain infamous Nemu fan.

Looks like you gained at least 5 levels of otakuism in one go. Well done.

    You just went from a otaku-ist to a professional otaku. We will remember your deeds to serve the otaku society. ^^ Keep up your good work and you will progress to being a national pro otaku. ^^;

Skh: 5 levels, lol. Probably not that much.

TedFox: woah, there’s a Spotlight in Singapore?

icie: HA! My super spending has calmed in the last 4 weeks. This is just a cheap alternative.

Kitee: Nihahaha, I’m still wondering if someone can come close to me yet.

fisherman horizon: Feena is my precious princess, I dare not harm her in any way :P

Feena FTW and uber alles. Too bad the anime sucked.

I paid 68 dollars for my original COSPA pillow, which is about 50++ Australian dollars I think. It’s a perfect fit too. I must say mine was a steal, for 10000 yen is indeed insane.

Feena-hime is always an excellent choice. Although that’s one level of otakuism you might want to hide when your girlfriend visits–if I remember right, even Tsuyoshi’s room in Densha Otoko didn’t have a daimakura (although Feena >> Hermes, so maybe he should have).

Pete Zaitcev: Yeah it was a shame, but the dakimakura makes up for it!

tj han: I can actually get he COSPA one for $65 AU from a supplier of mine but this is just a cheap alternative since I’m poor.

suguru: Luckily for me I’m single at the moment, but I wouldn’t be ashamed of having it on the bed. Simply put it elsewhere for when the time comes :P

YOU ARE CREEPY, DEAR LORD. Your room is awful. What a waste of money. I’ll be shocked if you ever are able to marry into the human race.

  14. 14 Kousaka Apr 12th, 2007 at 5:50 am

Seriously. I agree with secret agent. This room is not worth spending money on anime merchandise. What’s the use of it if the room looks ugly?

  15. 15 Adun Apr 12th, 2007 at 8:16 am

secret agent: Each has their own opinions. If you think this is a waste of money then that’s fine, this is just a hobby for me.

Kousaka: If you are referring to the room in the photos, that isn’t my bedroom. It’s more like a guess bedroom now as it gets insanely hot during the summer to sleep on a bunk.
