City Nightime Photography - Take 1!

Last night was my sister’s birthday dinner. With dinner being in the city gave me the opportunity to head out afterwards for some nighttime photography, which I was dying to try out. So heading from Golden Century Seafood Restaurant, armed with my camera, tripod and a full stomach, I headed out towards Martin Place.

Martin Place has a HUGE Christmas tree. I learnt about this from icie’s post and I thought it would be the best place to start. Now I headed there roughly around 10 p.m, which was good as there weren’t as many people around. Upon arriving I saw other photographers there taking pictures. Though looking at their equipment puts mine to shame. I talked to them for a bit and then proceeded to take photos.

Now I must say, the other photographers I talked to must have been there for well over an hour. I spent at most 30 minutes, mainly because this was all testing for me. Personally I’m pleased with the results produced though I do feel that they could turn out better so how.

Packing up I headed back down George St and came across Sydney Town Hall, the same town hall that Animania Sydney is held in. Now along here is a busy intersection, and I thought there was no space to setup the tripod, but to my surprise I met some more photographers.

There was a problem with taking pictures from the position I was at, and that was the traffic zooming by in front. Though after a bit of trial and error they don’t actually show up. All you see is the trail of light going across, which I thought was pretty neat. These were the only two colour schemes that I took since I couldn’t be bothered to take photos of each one. Especially when half the time, cars were stopped in front due to a red light.

The last stop for the night was Cockle Bay Wharf, or generally Darling Harbour. This has to be one of the best places to take night time photographs especially when it is around 11 p.m at night. Heck everytime I’ve been through here on a Sunday night, there is always a married couple taking photos, which is pretty awesome.

Well it was a fun night to take photographs and I’ve learnt a bit more about it. Also to keep note, I don’t have a remote for my camera yet. So all these photos were taken with pressing the shutter button. I hope to get a remote soonish as I have other places I have in mind to take photos. For example the Harbour Bridge, The Opera House, Glebe Island Bridge, and Chinatown just to name a few, but there are some locations around my local area that I have in mind. Also going through Cockle Bay Wharf, I also came with an idea for a figure photo shoot so I hope that goes well.

    Nice photos :)

Only thing that spoiled some of the photos would be the lens flare. Get a hood to reduce it
