Well this arrived over a month ago and after many failed attempts at photo shoots, I did managed to get some slightly better ones.

Well it has been quite some time since Rozen Maiden finished and of course, there were bound to be figures released. But more importantly most people would’ve liked a Suigintou figure. She was definitely the most evil in the first Rozen Maiden series and that’s what probably made her that awesome. But despite the whole “desu” factor of Rozen Maiden I think what made me really like the series was the costumes of the Alice dolls. I’m just a sucker for Victorian style costumes.
Though when I saw that Yujin was releasing a SRDX version I pre-ordered it without thinking and then forgot about it. And thus it arrived at my door. But upon receiving it, it isn’t as good as I thought.

One of Suigintou’s defining parts is the ribbons. When she arrived in her box, the ribbons were an extra that you had to attach yourself. Rather annoying to do as there is a total of 5 ribbons. 2 for the headrest, 2 for her arms, and 1 for the neck. But you could easily figure out where they go as each ribbon had a specific plug shape. Another extra is the black feather that she holds in her hand. Though be wary as it does come off easily and can be easily lost.

Like I mentioned before, I’m a sucker for Victorian styled costumes. I really do like the simpleness of Suigintou’s costume, but then most of the other dolls from Rozen Maiden have simple costumes. Though there i one thing that annoys me and that is her legs. Her legs are plugged in but they don’t quite fit properly. So even from looking straight forward, you can notice that her left leg is slightly sticking out.

Another defining feature of Suigintou is her black wings. They come as an extra as well but generally she doesn’t look right without the wings. The wings compliment with her costume as well as the ribbons. Also I like how her dress flows out at the back.

One other thing to note is the base that she is sitting on. It’s a fairly large cross, but that isn’t the main problem. As you can see the base is thin octagonal shape and Suigintou sits directly above the edge. But also the cross is not fixed to the base. The two can be separated and the cross just plugs onto the base. So I can see in the future that the base is going to lean. It would have been a better idea if the cross was screwed onto the base for more support.
Suigintou’s pose I actually like alot. It gives a sense of elegance, grace, and patience. But at the same time, with the look on her face you can tell she is playfully evil. Though unfortunately the cross is probably the only place you can have her sit. Her butt is squared off her to to sit snuggly on the cross, so unless you have something similar in size to the cross, she’s staying put.
Overall I don’t think this is a great figure. The few factors are the base, having to attach the ribbons, the sticking out of her left leg, and she can only sit on the base. Though what I also noticed from the promo picture is that her head is slightly raised higher. In the actual figure it is lower making it rather hard to see her face. But you can’t expect much from a figure that costs only ¥3600, plus it’s a SRDX. I give a rating of 4 out of 10 as it simply isn’t a great figure. I suppose if I want something similar to a Victorian style doll I’m better off splurging money on a super dollfie. And surpringly enough I am considering getting one, but a Da Capo one at that. Well I’ll see how it goes.
Notes:
Ok, I know the photos above are slightly out of focused. This time around I tried using the macro filter (+10) but I found it rather difficult when zooming in really close to focus without camera shake. So I think I shall continue to use the +4 filter for the rest of the photos. But i guess you could also say I rushed taking these photos as it was rather hot outside, due to bushfires happening in the mountains. So nothing like grey smoke clouds in the sky giving off an orange glow.
I had a few ideas for the photo shoot for Suigintou. I wanted to use a church as a background but the only one I could think of was the church in the city. Though that photo shoot failed due to too much direct sunlight. The other idea was taking the pictures at night during a full moon. But I came across too many problems, mainly being the next full moon was next month, plus I don’t have a remote for the camera. So I went back to the idea of a church and realised there was one in my local area. Below is a picture of the church.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with your 4/10 rating. The first thing I thought when I saw the photos was “this one is poorly made”. The moulding of the various parts are flawed, and these problems are especially noticeable in the hair. But for 3000-4000 yen I guess it’s pretty good.
I suggest doing a bit of modding and sticking a metal pipe up the cross, or putting a screw up there to prevent warping. My Kamichu figure is unbalanced and I am planning to dremel up through the legs to add internal support.
Actually I find this background very nice. But bushfires are probably rather warm. I’m going to Australia in a day’s time and I heard its 36 degrees over there OMG.

I might look into putting a screw in it, but for now, the Suigintou sits right at the back of the cabinet.

36 degrees is indeed hot, but be thankful you are not here during Christmas and New Years as it can get to a scorching 50 degrees.
The pose is quite nice, and the base concept is a pretty nifty idea - certainly a far cry from the flat piece of plastic. The base for the base should probably be a little bigger to carry Suigintou’s weight better, and of course a more stable way of attaching the 2 pieces might be nice. A solution that might work is glue, although I dunno what you’re like when it comes to using it.
In my opinion the figure was a good effort, but the execution needs a little work. This is of course coming from someone that doesn’t own it (yet?) so my opinion might not be the best.
I agree… this figure is not of excellent quality. It does feel poorly made, and feels like an “action figure” toy than a statue figurine.
I solved the base problem by using Tamaya plastic cement - the kind people use for fusing Gundam pieces together. It REALLY holds it together, no more leaning. I also suggest decorating the other side of the cross with a chain and pendant to balance it out.
