Moé Moé Rabu

Makoto sneaks into Yuuichi’s room, but Yuuichi is ready and sprung Makoto asking her what she is doing. He notices that she is carrying a pair of scissors in one hand, accusing her of wanting to cut his hair, but she said she wanted to make paper planes instead. Going over to Yuuichi’s desk, she cuts out some paper out of his notebook, makes a paper plane and throws it at Yuuichi. But Yuuichi is shocked to realise that the paper is from his homework, so Makoto takes her leave.

In the morning, Nayuki is spreading strawberry jam on her toast and Yuuichi comments on how she has liked strawberry jam for a long time. Nayuki notes that if it’s Akiko’s strawberry jam she can eat 3 servings. Makoto walks in with Akiko who needs to get her ready for the part time work, so Akiko decides that she should serve Makoto some of her jam to give her energy. This catches Yuuichi’s and Nayuki’s attention, so they say they are full to avoid eating it. Makoto finds it interesting, but Nayuki is horrified to see her mother blob on so much. Taking a bite, Makoto’s eyes start watering and cries out “Auu”. Makoto looks to both Yuuichi and Nayuki, but they also turn away from her. Akiko tells her not to hold back and that there is plenty more.

On the way to school, Nayuki spots a cat sitting on top of a wall. She finds it cute and approaches it, but Yuuichi stops her and reminds her that she is allergic to cats, but she doesn’t care. At school, Nayuki is crying due t her allergy, but Jun thinks that Yuuichi was being mean. Kaori knew right then that it was her allergy. Nayuki explains that Yuuichi tried to stop her but she couldn’t resist. This makes them notice that Yuuichi isn’t present, which is because he is meeting up with Shiori. Yuuichi tells her that if she is so energetic she should attend classes, but Shiori says that the doctor thinks she isn’t ready yet. Yuuichi then suggest she go home and rest, but Shiori brings up the promise of making a 10 metre snowman.

During lunch break, Yuuichi heads off to meet Sayuri and Mai for lunch. Yuuichi asks Mai if she got rid of the ghost. Sayuri is confused by the conversation as Mai doesn’t answer any of Yuuichi’s questions. But since Mai is sitting there eating, Yuuichi ends up talking with Sayuri instead.

Having met up with Nayuki but parting ways shortly, Yuuichi is wondering around the shopping arcade again but ends up getting glomped by Ayu from behind and lands face down on the ground. After Ayu apologies, Ayu explains that she is still looking for that important item. Yuuichi says that he can’t help as he wants to get home early. Ayu doesn’t mind as she wants to get home as well. After parting ways with Ayu, Yuuichi finds Makoto staring at an amusement centre, intrigued by a bunch of high school girls in a photo booth. Yuuichi approaches Makoto and say if she wants to take one, she should’ve done it with Ayu. Makoto denies this and says she was only interested, thus decides to go home with Yuuichi. In the background, Amano is standing there watching the pair leave.

Walking along, Yuuichi asks Makoto about the nursery job, but Makoto gets angry at Yuuichi for not believing she did her best. Refusing to go home with him, she runs off. Yuuichi turns the other way and walks off, but eventually Makoto is following behind him. Catching her following him, Makoto claims that she has things to do in the same direction. Yuuichi finally suggests they just walk together and she reluctantly agrees. Continuing along, Yuuichi brings up the topic that Makoto goes “Auu” when she’s troubled. But along the way, the cat from this morning shows up at her feet. Yuuichi suggest Makoto to pet it, but she doesn’t want to, so Yuuichi promises to buy her niku-man if she does. So taking the cat in her arms, but the cat eventually makes its way on the top of Makoto’s head.

As promised, Yuuichi gives Makoto a niku-man, but as she was about to bite it, the cat swiped it from her. So Makoto starts chasing the cat around Yuuichi. Feeling irritated, he hits Makoto telling her to knock it off as there is another one in the bag. Afterwards, standing on a bridge, Yuuichi wonders what they are going to do with the cat since they can’t take it home due to Nayuki’s allergy. Makoto says that it’s best not to think and just let the cat eat and do nothing. She also thinks that animals are usually thrown away when they are not needed anymore, so it’s better to not raise them and return them to the wild. Yuuichi doesn’t understand what Makoto is talking about, but suddenly she lets go of the cat, falling down to the road. Fortunately a truck came past and the cat lands on top. Despite the luck of the cat, Yuuichi gets angry at Makoto and almost slaps her. Makoto is upset over their argument and runs off.

Later that night, everyone is eating dinner with Makoto absent. Finishing off dinner, Yuuichi heads out looking for Makoto. Walking around the city, he eventually heads to the school to ask Mai if Makoto had came by. Though Mai suggests that he go to the hill to look for her. Yuuichi is surprised by this and asks her why, but Mai replies that she has a feeling that she is there. Arriving at the hill, he finds Makoto sitting with the cat eating niku-man. Tired from searching for the cat, Makoto falls asleep on the grass. Yuuichi takes Makoto home, but along the way, he notices a fox is watching them leave. Back home, Makoto wakes up and is surprised to find herself back home. Yuuichi explains that this is also her home and that he carried her back. During a late night dinner, Makoto looks at Yuuichi, Nayuki and Akiko but her vision is blurry. Later upstairs Makoto asks what Yuuichi said at the hill, but Yuuichi jokingly said “rest in peace”, but Makoto decides to go to bed instead of fighting back.

Impressions

Wow, I really enjoyed this episode, but mainly because it was Makoto focused. We are also finally introduced to Amano Mishio and Piro, meaning the Makoto arc should be coming to a close in two or three episodes. I’m guessing two. What really surprised me about this episode was when Mai suggested the hill to Yuuichi. It still raises the of how does Mai know and how is she connected. Also next week it seems to be a Makoto glory episode, and Yuuichi meets Mishio. So hopefully next episode they unveil the mysteries around Makoto.

What also made me enjoy this episode so much was the BGM used during the late night dinner. It gave it a deeper feel to the situation and it was a nice touch. Animation is awesome as ever, especially the part of Makoto talking back to Yuuichi on the bridge. Very fluid movement.

Also Nayuki wanting to pat Piro was ssoooo cute. Though I do feel sorry for her as she is a cat lover, but has an allergy to cats. I do kind of wish Nayuki had some more screen time, but it won’t happen for quite some time. At least the other girls are getting some screen time, regardless if it is a small timeframe. It gives the sense that at least the girls aren’t forgotten and are still part of the story. I look forward to next week!

Kanon Merchandise of the Week

Ok instead of just blogging about Kanon, since we have a fair way to go still, I decided to also post up Kanon-related merchandise that I actually own. Now I’ve been an advid fan for quite some time. So with the powers of the Internet and having went to Japan, I have a rather diverse collection of Key merchandise. Some common stuff, and some really rare stuff. So each week I will feature something Kanon related, and hopefully it’ll last a few weeks.

First up, since it’s the Makoto arc, I present to you a Makoto plushy. Now you may think this looks ugly, but this was released WAY back in 2000, so it is rather old.
