Kanon - 06

Seven years ago, Yuuichi met Ayu again, though a bit late. This gives Ayu the chance to tell Yuuichi that her name isn’t Ayu-Ayu, but Tsukimiya Ayu. Despite knowing her full name, Yuuichi still calls her Ayu-Ayu. The two are eating taiyaki again together with Ayu saying that it tastes better this time, although Yuuichi comments that it does since she isn’t crying. Eventually, Ayu also thanks Yuuichi for everything, causing him to blush. Ayu then asks Yuuichi if he loves his mother, which he replies he does. Ayu says that she does to, but she has passed away. Yuuichi feeling sorry for Ayu suggests that they met again tomorrow and the two pinky promise on it.

Back in the present, Yuuichi is lying in bed but hears footsteps outside his door. It is none other than Makoto, who is armed with some fireworks, which she lights up and throws into his room. Yuuichi, quick to his feet, picks them all up and throws them out in the hallway. The explosion scares Makoto causing her to cry out. This is enough to wake up both Akiko and Nayuki. Akiko asks her if she wants to play with firework. Makoto nods her head, so Akiko tells her that she should let her know next time. Yuuichi tells Makoto that she should act a little sorry, with Makoto giving Auuu~~ as a reply.

The next morning, Yuuichi wakes up and eats breakfast, ignoring the fact that Ayu is sitting across from him. It is only until he tries to go back to his room that Ayu tugs on his jacket calling him mean. But Yuuichi claims that he didn’t notice her. Ayu asks if Yuuichi is doing anything today and presents to him two movie tickets, given to her by Akiko. Yuuichi asks Akiko instead to go with him, and Akiko agrees. Ayu is shocked by this but Akiko says that it was a joke and tells her to have fun with Yuuichi. So the two then decide to meet at 5 p.m.

After Ayu leaves, Yuuichi ponders the idea of watching a movie with Ayu, but Akiko gives the idea that it’s a date. But Yuuichi asks her not to say something like that. Right then Nayuki walks in saying that she heard someone fall over and said “Uguu, itai dayo”. Yuuichi then informs Akiko that he knew Ayu from when he used to visit them seven years ago. This surprises Akiko and makes her think that Ayu has been waiting for Yuuichi. Yuuichi doesn’t quite understand but Akiko says that it’s nothing important.

Heading back upstairs, Yuuichi runs into Makoto being all cheerful, despite what happened last night. Though before she walks away, Yuuichi tells her that he needs to talk with her. What he wanted to talk about is Makoto getting some part-time work. Though they do find one which is a waitress job at a manga lounge and her interview is later in the evening.

Parting ways with Makoto, Yuuichi goes to the school to check up on Nayuki, but notices that she is not present, though he does notice a few girls doing stretches. Walking around, he bumps into Shiori. Though realising that she has been there since noon he is rather annoyed by what she is doing and asks her why. Shiori answers that she knows that no one is around, though she came and stayed anyway. She admits that it’s foolish and Yuuichi agrees, wrapping her in his coat. Looking at the sunset, Yuuichi asks Shiori why she comes here everyday, but Shiori doesn’t know, and that she comes probably to find the answer to that question. Yuuichi then hears bells ringing to indicate that it’s 5 p.m. and he is late in meeting up with Ayu.

Arriving at the meeting point, Yuuichi apologises to Ayu but she is glad that he came. Arriving at the movie theatre, they realise what is showing is a horror movie. So throughout the movie, Ayu covers herself with her coat but Yuuichi teasingly takes her coat away from her, causing her to flail her arms around demanding her coat back. Though throughout the movie Yuuichi discovers the different variations of Uguu.

After the movie, Ayu is exhausted so the two head into a coffee shop. Ayu tells Yuuichi that she has always been afraid of ghosts. Just before parting ways, Yuuichi tells Ayu he had fun today and thanks her. Walking along, he notices that Ayu is following him and she tells him that she is afraid of the dark. So Yuuichi walks with her until the point where she can go on her own. After she runs off, he wonders where she lives.

At home, Yuuichi discovers that Makoto fell asleep during the interview. So Akiko suggest working at her acquaintance’s nursery school and makes the necessary arrangements. Later that night, Yuuichi finds himself back at the school to find Mai slaying demons again. With the demons gone, Mai tells Yuuichi to stay with Makoto and that she will be needing Yuuichi soon. Back home Yuuichi notices Makoto walk out of the bathroom, but then smells something coming from inside. He was shocked to discover that the bath is filled with miso soup. Lecturing Makoto about what she did, Yuuichi sees her sad face and remembers what Mai said before about Makoto needing him.

Impressions

Well it is pretty obvious that Makoto’s arc will be the first one to finish. Though we have still yet to be introduced to Amano Mishio but I’m assuming she’ll come in in episode 8. Though what intrigues me is how Mai knows that Makoto will be needing Yuuichi soon. I’m hoping that they’ll explain this at the near end of Makoto’s arc or somewhere in Mai’s arc. They also have added quite a number of new elements that aren’t present in the game and from the Toei version, mainly Makoto getting a job. Though it was rather funny hearing that she fell asleep during the interview, but even more funny when Nayuki sympathies with her. Also to note that at least in Kanon, the girls interact with each other, as opposed to Air. Now that we have hit the 1/4 mark, I am estimating that Makoto’s arc will finish in 2-3 episodes max.

This week’s episode wasn’t as smooth as last weeks. Especially when it came to the Shiori and Mai parts. But it does have it’s amusing parts, like Nayuki waking up and stirring Natto half asleep, but also Ayu being scared out of her wits in the movie. But Yuuichi being how he is, was still awesome teasing Ayu like that, but we also see that he can be a caring person when he was angry with Shiori standing in the cold for a prolonged period of time.

Next week we see Makoto try out Akiko’s jam, and Piro the cat makes it’s appearance.
