Moé Moé Rabu

We start with the girl talking about dreams. She starts asking when did she realise she was in a dream but can’t remember as the answer fades away. Going back to Yuuichi, he arrives home carrying the girl with him, greeted at the door by Nayuki asking if he bought the oden ingredients. Noticing the girl on his back, Nayuki comments how the oden ingredient is big and Yuuichi looking a bit confused and asks her does the girl look edible. But Akiko comes to the door and says the exact same thing as Nayuki. Putting the girl to bed, Yuuichi explains what happened with him and the girl, so Akiko suggests they wake the girl up. Yuuichi tries to wake the girl up but to no success. He then tells her that “It’s meal time” and suddenly the girl wakes up, jumping around looking for the food. Realising that she is with three other people, the girl asks who they are but Yuuichi says that is his line.

Over dinner, the girl reveals that doesn’t remember who she is, except all she knows is that she has a grudge against Yuuichi. Going through the girl’s belongings, they find a set of photos but with the girl by herself. Asking the girl what she going to do, the girl says that until she regains her memories, she’ll stay at their house. Yuuichi then tells Nayuki to call the police saying that it is their job in helping the girl, but the girl says she doesn’t want to as the police are scary and that Yuuichi is the only clue she has. After a bit of arguing, Nayuki suggests they ask her mother if the girl can stay, but Yuuichi says that Akiko will simply approve of it, in which Akiko does almost immediately. Although Akiko tells Yuuichi secretly that she’ll go to the police and ask about any missing girl reports. Afterwards, Yuuichi and Nayuki deal with the problem of the girl’s name, but since she cannot remember, Yuuichi gives her the name Satsumura Kyouko which earns him a slap in the face.

Later at night, Yuuichi hears the sound of a door opening. Looking out in the hallway, he sees the girl heading downstairs, in which he follows her. He finds the girl in the kitchen rummaging through the fridge looking for something to eat. So what he does is sneak up behind her, pick up a konnyaku and drops it down the back of the girl’s shirt. The girl immediately screams in horror and starts rolling around the floor, whilst making a mess of the kitchen. The noise happens to wake up Nayuki and Akiko. The girl explains she is hungry, so Akiko decides to make her some food with everyone sitting at the table having a late night meal.

The next day, Kitagawa hears the story from Yuuichi and thinks he had a relationship with the girl in the past which caused her to hate him now. Yuuichi thinks its impossible since he came here last when he was 10 years old. He says to Nayuki that the pace is faster than his old school, so Nayuki tells him that she’ll show her notes later. Kitagawa then tells Yuuichi that there is a girl standing in the snow outside. Looking out the window, he recognises the girl. When the bell chimes for lunch time, Yuuichi runs out to meet the girl outside, promising Nayuki that he’ll go to the cafeteria with her when he comes back. Yuuichi meets up with the girl where she reveals she is a student of the school, but is absent today. Yuuichi thinks that it’s cutting class, but the girl says that her health isn’t very good and has been absent for a long time. Asking about her sickness, the girl simply answers that it’s a cold, but is surprised as he thought it would be something with a complicated name. So the girl calls it influenza, but Yuuichi points out they are the same. Changing the topic, the girl says that she is meeting someone but also says that she doesn’t know much about that person. Yuuichi asks the girl if she met the person before, which she replies she has, so he then asks what kind of person they are, but the girl replies that its a secret. Walking off and talking a bit more, the girl decides to head home, which Yuuichi asks about the person she was supposed to meet, but the girl says that’s ok. After walking a few metres, Yuuichi calls out and tell her his name. She answers back by saying her name is Shiori, though Yuuichi asks her about her family name, she bows and walks off.

Back in class, Nayuki is mad at Yuuichi and calls him a liar. Forgiving Yuuichi, the two encounter Sayuri and Mai again on the stairwell. Going their separate ways since Nayuki has club activities; Yuuichi is walking through the shopping district. He is suddenly jumped on by Ayu, and clings onto his back until he throws her off. Mocking Ayu of her “uguu”, he ends u making her mad so he treats her to taiyaki. Ayu tells Yuuichi that she is searching for something she lost and it’s very important to her, but she can’t remember what it is that she is looking for. Upon seeing Ayu looking upset, Yuuichi decides to help her search for the item. By nightfall, they had no luck. The last place Ayu wants to look at is a cake store she knows of, but instead it turns out to be a bookstore. She decides that if she keeps searching, she’ll definitely find it someday and thanks Yuuichi for searching with her. Yuuichi then remembers to ask Ayu for her cell phone number, but Ayu doesn’t know what a cell phone is. As Ayu runs off, Yuuichi thinks to himself how there’s a girl with no memory, Ayu who can’t remember what she lost, and himself who can’t remember anything from seven years ago which makes him think is there some sort of magic that causes amnesia in the city.

Arriving back home, Yuuichi is greeted at the door by the girl with no memories. Running towards him, she trips and crashes into him instead. Akiko informs Yuuichi that the girl remembers her name, and the girl tells him that its Sawatari Makoto. Although knowing this, Yuuichi and Makoto are still able to argue. Over at the school, we see Mai standing in the corridor brandishing a sword. Something approaches her and she slashes away at it.

Impressions

I must say, Kanon gets better everytime I watch it, but that probably means nothing coming from a HUGE Kanon fan. Now the storyline is starting to move along as right now it’s moving rather fast as we now have been introduced to Makoto and Shiori and next week will be Mai’s turn. The pace is almost as fast as the Toei version so it makes me wonder how are Kyoto Animation going to stretch this to 24 episodes? Well I know at least in the Toei version, Mai’s scenario was covered rather quick, so lets hope KyoAni will cover it more so than the Toei version.

Also the konnyaku part was gold. As was the Ayu glomping Yuuichi, but I would’ve preferred that she knocked him over like she did in the Toei version and in the game. Though seeing Nayuki sitting there smiling while Yuuichi was chasing Makoto around the table is rather, I found it rather odd. We know that Nayuki does like Yuuichi but at least a bit of jealously would be nice, unless she has 100% faith in Yuuichi. Also I noticed that Shiori’s voice seems rather different to the Toei version. It is the same seiyuu, but in the Toei version, Shiori sounded much more mature, but I guess comparing the old to the new is not always a good thing but its something that can’t be helped at the moment.

Next week’s preview shows us that Ayu visits Yuuichi and meets Makoto, and Yuuichi finds out something about Kaori. As always, I look forward to the next episode.
