Tomorrow being the day of the first Mini-Animania for Sydney, I will be attending but this time not as a helper, but as a regular convention attendee (meaning I have to pay for entry). Having attended last month’s Mini-Animania Melbourne it is now Sydney’s turn to see if it can cut it. From what I could see Melbourne was a great sucess, especially since it was the first for Melbourne, but how will the first Mini-Animania for Sydney turn out? Will it be able to match Melbourne? With Animania Sydney 2006 (the two day version) only 51 days away this is a good chance for Sydneysiders to preview what Animania is all about before hitting the larger one. Tomorrow I will post a review post with pictures and such.
As a small note, this convention I will probably not buy much merchandise as there is only a handful of vendors but it doesn’t mean that I will walk away empty handed. I’m sure there will be something for me to buy but spending will be kept to a minimum for Animania Sydney.

Since helping out in the first animania, I have not been a big fan of that particular convention, ever since it left the hands of the anime clubs and the organisers became a “company”. For internet purchasers like us, opportunities for buying merchandise in conventions become extremely sparse — they’re usually overpriced, or of low quality…or both.
I never really did like conventions. They seemed rather disorganized (Probably the ones I’ve been to). Though we could get some rare merchandise, most of them are rip-offs and of low quality and are usually mainstream stuff. Where are the quality stuff? And yes, like icie pointed out, overpriced too.
True as you guys said, buying merchandise at a convention can be expensive. Though I buy something if I see it and is usually hard to get. Either that or I’m half-assed to buy it online. Also I turn up to a few conventions to meet people that I rarely get to see around and some of them include the actual vendors at the conventions.
Review post will be up tomorrow.
