After seeing the E3 Preview for this game last year, I finally obtained a copy and played it for a good 4 hours. I must say this game is absolutely awesome. Developed by Human Head Studios, they use a heavily modified version of the Doom 3 engine to produce this first person shooter. You play as a Cherokee Indian named Tommy and you get adbucted by aliens. Now you fight back in order to save your girlfriend Jen and save the rest of mankind.
There are three main things I like about this game. Gravity flipping, spirit mode and portal technology. In E3’s preview clip you had the ability to change the gravity pending on your location. You can also walk on walls which add a whole new range of complexity compared to most FPS games. Spirit mode gives you the ability to use your spirit to go places that your physical body cannot go, but of course your spirit can take damage. Last but not least and probably the best of all, portal technology. Similar to that of Half Life but on a more grander scale. Going through portals gives a new realm to gameplay and puzzle solving. Enemies can appear out of nowhere but you can also travel through these portals.
So far I am about 10 chapters into the game and this game has about 22 chapters. Though there are a few things that I don’t like about the game, one mainly that it is really really dark in some places. I know that it is based on alien abduction and all, but it still realtively hard to see some things. Also the other thing is the ability to die. Once you lose all your health, you go into Death Walking. Pretty much you goto the spirit realm in spirit form and you have to defeat fallen wraiths in order to recover health for both body and spirit before returning to you body. Though I can see a good side to this and is that you don’t have to constantly keep reloading when you die as that gets rather annoying after a while.
Overall I am enjoying this game as I have yet to uncover all the weapons available in the game. Thus I rate the game 9 out of 10.
