Well after some rest and sorting through stuff that I bought I finally have time to post about Animania Melbourne 2006. Being a former member of the executives of JAUWS, I went down with my fellow comrades to help out for the AnimeSydney.org table. Leaving the Friday morning at 5:30am (from my house) and meeting up with both Tsutako and neuralPLEX at Tsutako’s house and picking up Torane on the way. After a grueling 9 hour drive we finally arrived in Melbourne and also feeling very hungry. Thus we had dinner and went to The Victoria Hotel, which is the place where Animania is being held, to setup our table. One major advantage about helping setup the table, I had a good glimpse of what was available to purchase especially from Tamarket. Other stores I had to wait till the next day.

The pics above are of Tsutako, Torane and neuralPLEX doing some last minute preparations for the upcomming day.

The table now finally complete on the Saturday morning. Of course I was feeling quite refreshed after only having 3 hours of sleeping. I didn’t goto sleep until 3:30am as I was watching the World Cup game of Germany vs Argentina. It was a good game and I was cheering for Germany which they won after going to penalty shootouts.
With only a few minutes before the doors open to the public, I had a quick glimpse at the other stores that were present. What got my attention, other than Tamarket, was ANIMEZONE who were right next to AnimeSydney’s table. They had many things that I wanted to purchase. Other places included were SnowBunny Luv & Babu (a doujin fan group I believe), OzTAKU (a group to help promote Australian artist), Madman and Animania’s own store.
I also happened to meet various internet friends, mainly those from the Tamarket IRC channel, throughout the day. Its good to finally meet people that you have been talking to online for the past 2-3 years and I hope to see them again in the near future.
Now with Animania open there were quite a number of people. Despite the small amount of space that was available I was surprised it went smoothly. People didn’t find it difficult to move around, well except us the storeholders, and there were even a number of cosplayers who showed up. There were some good ones, so ok ones, and ones that were make you ask “why?” and ones “hey that’s the same person from such and such convention”. Now for some pics of the convention itself!

The above pic is of Gonzi and myself. This is probably the only picture of myself on this site.

Well that’s it for now as I have other things to do at the moment. I will post Part 2 and merchandise later tonight after work.

The table of series boxsets looks appealing. Mmm, last minute preparations. Looked like fun, in a slightly hectic, painful and last minute fashion. What else to say….
Oh well, welcome back! I hope you had fun ^_^
Keep the pics comin’! Yeah the madman table looks appealing, although you may already get them from JBHIFI etc, they’re everywhere I think
Looking at the stage/cosplay, was it crampy??
well it wasn’t really a stage. More of an open space. Problem was that I arrived about 2 minutes before it started.
